Pulses / Legumes Food Nutrition
Pulses are seeds of plants belonging to Leguminosae, taking its name from the legume/pod which surrounds the seed(s) whilst they are growing and ripening. There are around thirteen thousand species of pulses, and produce all types of products, including food, chemicals, and even medicines.
Pulses contain high levels of protein, as well as being an excellent source of fibre and carbohydrates. In addition, they normally contain unsaturated fat, which do not increase the risk of heart disease.
